Melanie was born and raised in South Dakota. Even as a young girl she loved music and knew all the words to the most popular songs,
which her older sister played constantly.
Her dream was to grow up to be a rock star. She graduated from her hometown’s Britton high school and went on to Black Hills State University where she received a degree in business.
This led her to opening fitness studios in Britton and Custer, where she put aerobic routines to music. She later moved to Denver and joined her brother Rick at an athletic club where she was head of the aerobics department. At the same time, she began writing original songs, and since then she has produced four CDs.
For the past twenty-five years, Melanie has been teaching preschool at New Horizons in Durango, Colorado. You can tell she’s completely in her element when she talks about making a difference in the little one’s lives, helping to instill self-esteem, self-worth, and confidence by allowing them to feel loved and become successful in their efforts.
Her preschoolers come to school as caterpillars and leave as beautiful butterflies ready to take on kindergarten with the attitude of “look out world, here I come!” As an author, songwriter, and educator, Melanie has truly reached rock star status in the eyes of these youngsters.
She has also performed concerts in many places such as:
Night Vision, in Olathe, Colorado
The Denver Aquarium
Read Across America
Nighthorse Campbell at Ft. Lewis College
As well as countless Libraries around Durango, Cortez, Bayfield, Pagosa, and Ignacio, and at Elementary schools all over the country.
Melanie has also had numerous book signing at various book stores across Colorado.
When not writing songs, performing concerts or teaching preschool, Melanie can be found living in beautiful Durango, Colorado with love of her life,
her husband, Joe.
